September recap

September recap

Pfew, last month just flew by and yet so many things have happened! I didn’t plan on not blogging at all (only not about Whole30) but have just been too stressed to try out new recipes!  I did have a lot of stress last month: just before starting school I had several outbursts of hives (really bad outbursts, on one occasion I had to go to my PhD in the middle of the night to get not 1 but 2 injections! Yay for cortisone? *sigh*). Typical allergic reaction, but it took me a few weeks to find out what the culprit was. And let me tell you, I was NOT amused when it turned out to be….coconut 🙁 . The only common ingredient in almost all my meals! DH has been abroad twice this month, which combined with first week of classes made me switch to “survival” mode, but hey, we did survive and I stayed on course with clean eating. Well, after my discovery that coconut products (including coconut oil) are off my food list, I did allow butter back in. So I think technically I can’t say it was a Whole30 anymore, so I’m calling it “Back to Basics 30” 🙂 . And I stuck to that: vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, eggs and healthy fats (including butter), limited nuts. And I truly think this has helped me keeping some of my cool in a very stressful situation. The stress did block my back and neck (giving me a headache for a week straight!) and I do suspect stress is also part of why my hernia is acting up again (again, more cortisone, damn it!), and why I caught a cold even when starting every day with a cup of homemade bone broth and a shot of fermented skate liver oil! So now this B2B30 is over I’m happy to have some of my Kill All the Bugs tea WITH honey 🙂 . Oh, I lost 1.7 kg this month. I wasn’t sure I lost weight, but I did feel my skirts were more comfy and my stomach looks a lot flatter than it used to. But most importantly, I wasn’t frustrated or unhappy because I didn’t loose more weight! I’ll take that as a win 🙂 . The scale just might have lost his magic powers to make me unhappy!

Plans for October: try to relax and not panic when things don’t go as I planned them 🙂 . Bake and eat cake on my birthday! Have a piece of dark chocolate once in a while. Stick to clean eating as much as possible. Continue with the daily bone broth and fermented skate liver oil. Try to get that whole book on developmental psychology in my head by November (no panicking I said!!!). Well, at least you know what I’ll be doing if I’m not blogging!
